Quantum tunneling of ultracold atoms in a double well

Tunneling is a quantum phenomenon which is forbidden by classical mechanics. Quantum tunneling of microscopic particles has been observed. In fact, quantum tunneling is important to the application of scanning tunneling microscope. However, tunneling of macroscopic objects has not been observed and the related issues have not yet understood. In this talk, I will discuss the tunneling of a two-component atomic Bose-Einstein condensates in a double well. I will introduce quantum-correlated tunneling between two condensates. The relationship between entanglement and tunneling will be discussed. In addition, I will also introduce a new method for manipulating the tunneling dynamics such as the directions of atomic spin flows and single-atom tunneling.

吴浩铮,2005年在香港中文大学获得物理学博士学位。2005-2007年,被授予裘槎基金会奖学金以支持其在英国牛津大学的博士后研究。其后,到英国伦敦大学学院(2007-2009年)和日本理化学研究所(2009-2010年)作研究。现在,在国立台湾大学作博士后研究员。
